Synopsis:

Han Tae Sool is a genius engineer who became the co-founder of Quantum and Time Company. He came from rags to richer situation propelled by his intelligence in creating innovative products. However, he started to become indifferent, eccentric and become addicted to pills due to his guilt of being callous to his older brother who died as he gained success. He lives in the present time and is about to introduce a new invention when Gang Seo Hae, a mysterious woman with skills as a warrior saved his life and abducted him to protect him against unknown enemies. He didn’t understand what’s going on but it seems Gang Seo Hae is someone who came from the future and time travel to the present to secure him and his future invention in order to survive and exist.

My Review:

I’m not much to sci-fi kdramas, but, as of late, it is very hard to find a romcom kdrama that makes sense and enjoyable to watch. I guess, it is very hard to create scripts in romcoms that’s not been done that and saw that. Hence, suspense and sci-fi genre are the most common stories that’s been showing as of late nowadays in the kdrama world. I don’t particularly dislike sci-fi genre as long as the story is good and makes sense plus have kdrama actors in it that I admire for their talents like Cho Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye on this “Sisyphus: The Myth” kdrama. So, it is not surprising that when this Korean drama was released in Netflix, I watched it immediately along with another Korean drama “Vincenzo”. I must say that this kdrama is a lot more tolerable with passable suspense and entertainment value than “Vincenzo” ever was and ever will be in my book.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Cho Seung Woo as Han Tae Sool and Park Shin Hye as Gang Seo Hae have delivered their roles very well as expected. Although, I don’t find much chemistry between them as a romantic couple, they are able to sustain my interest until the very last episode.

(2) The special effects is quite impressive. It is like a US production of creating and building effects and landscape to differentiate and make the audience feel the here and the future time frame.

(3) I must admire the scriptwriter for writing such a complex story inspired from one of the most famous films of Arnold Schwarzenegger, “The Terminator”, and, creating its own twist.

(4) I have to salute the director, supporting casts and the entire production team for being able to render a sci-fi kdrama worthy of being truly called science fiction.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

This could have been a great sci-fi thriller unlike “Memories of Alhambra”, but, in the end, like “Memories of Alhambra” where Park Shin Hye was also in it, it has fallen to the typical trap of time travel stories of making it so convoluted in nature that it becomes too confusing for the audience to follow and gets derailed to stay true to the premises the story set from the start on how the plot defines time travel is according to the said story. It is like things change by hiding behind what the genre is to accommodate fans’ expectations and provide a passable happy ending to cater to the hardcore fans even if the story doesn’t make sense anymore nor brings a believable meaning. This is the exact feeling I felt with “Goblin” too. Of course, the fans of the actors featured on these kdramas made a difference on how these kdramas will be perceived to be in the end. Because of the powerhouse casts that these kdramas generally have in it, everyone will go “gaga” on how great these kdramas were no matter how crappy really their stories actually are as fans have a tendency to be too loyal and become the same as the people on the story “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. They simply will not see the truth that we’ve all just wasted so much of our own precious time to be duped in watching these kdramas that make us want to leave our brain outside the door.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes
