My Review:

It is a very rare occurrence that I am able to watch a k-drama that speaks about my generation, its concerns and issues of my age and the things we go through yet made it all so interesting and entertaining to watch in all of its glorious 40 episodes. There’s no gimmicky plots but just facts of life told in a tale beautifully which one can fully appreciate and make you feel both its sadness and happiness on the characters’ journey. This is the beauty of “Should We Kiss First?”

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1)Kim Sun Ah truly has a knack of choosing the right materials to showcase her talent. Like the first time I watched her in “My Name is Kim Sam Soon” and her recent surprisingly great k-drama that I thoroughly enjoyed, “A Woman of Dignity”. “Should We Kiss First?” is another surprisingly hit k-drama for me. Kim Sun Ah as Ahn Soon Jin rocks in this k-drama. Though it is not surprising as she is indeed, in my book, one of the best k-drama actresses out there in the k-entertainment, but, still, she continually amazes me with her talent in every k-drama I watched that she’s in it. She made me laugh and get amuse a lot in this k-drama without trying to be cute. She’s just a natural as you forget Kim Sun Ah, the actress and get immersed simply watching her character.

(2)“Should We Kiss First?” is of the same expectations like “A Woman of Dignity” wherein I thought it will bore me before I watched it. But, alas, from the very first episode it simply made me love the foretelling of the story and like a very interesting book, I simply can’t put it down.

(3)Kam Woo Sung was as spectacular in his performance as Son Moo Han and truly did his character as the same level of excellency in performance as Kim Sun Ah. Their chemistry is undeniable and made their reel story real for the audience. Their love story envelopes in this simple quote of this k-drama, “My Life was a journey of taking so many roundabouts just to end up with you” by Na Hee Doek’s Blue Sky.

(4)This is one of the k-dramas that was written and directed perfectly, delivering a story that is immensely sad but joyful as well. It’s been a long, long, long time since I really cried and laugh in a matter of a few minutes interval in a k-drama or in any drama or film for that matter. And, unlike “Something in the Rain” that uses too slow pace and MTV-like in most of its scenes to draw the audience’s emotion that failed most of the time and ended up being a bit dragging for me, “Should We Kiss First?” did its scenes at just the right pace that effortlessly draws ones emotions. Like I get too emotional when the scenes is about Byeol, Son Moo Han’s dog, who is dying of cancer. I love my dog like Son Moo Han loves his and I worry every single day now that she might get sick because she’s getting old. I fear the day when she leaves me. And, like Son Moo Han, my dog is the most precious gift in my life. So, I totally lost it and burst into tears with Son Moo Han as he says goodbye to Byeol. So, like what Son Moo Han believes, “If worrying can make my worries disappear, I wouldn’t be worried” and that’s the way this k-drama works its magic, through hope.

(5)The entire casts were superb and their stories and participation enhances rather than distracts the central story of the main leads.

(6)The 40 30-minute episodes passed by oh so quickly with its heartfelt OST and I was as sad when it ended. And, like how Ahn Soon Jin’s and Kam Woo Sung’s tried to live their life, it ends remembering the good filled with hope to the days of living one’s life to the fullest.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
There’s nothing I don’t like nor will change in this k-drama. It is one of the k-dramas that is done perfect as is.
