Synopsis:

Kim Sa-Bu, commonly known as Teacher Kim, is a brilliant medical doctor with a past that he ended up changing his name and quietly practice medicine in a remote hospital. Yoon Seo-Jung, a pretty and feisty female doctor who also have a past that drives her to be better surgeon in order to be acknowledge by someone she loves. While Kang Dong-Joo is a young, smart and hard-working medical doctor who is driven to become the best of what he does in his field of expertise. Yoon Seo-Jung and Kang Dong-Joo both ended up practicing at the same remote Doldam Hospital as Teacher Kim and by twist of fate through Teacher Kim unconventional tactics, they both learned who they are not only as a doctor but as a person. My Review:

I don’t know much about the actors here, although I’ve seen some of them in other dramas, this is one of those times that I watched a K-Drama due to the recommendation of my trusted Korean drama review sites. And, I must say there’s a reason why I trusted these sites because their tastes for K-drama stories are the same as mine. Very rare that they recommend a K-drama I didn’t like. And, Romantic Doctor is not an exception. Thank God! Time is so precious to me these days that watching something that sucks is something I don’t need. This is also one of the rare jewels that do medical scenes with better execution and research and for just this alone I can give them a 5-star rating.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) The story really starts very fast with less fun fare and goes to the heart of it real quick including the kiss. First time I watched a K-Drama that adultly give you the real world and made it interesting to watch and makes me crave for more.

(2) I like how the dialogues were written. It was very direct and quite a great surprise that it is not done like a typical K-Drama style but spoken from the heart of the characters.

(3) Its story and subplots show challenges we encounter in our everyday lives. Arguments and questions on what’s the best thing to do and figure out who we are as people. There’s a scene on Episode 8 that affected me quite a lot because it is a scene that bears my own questions in what’s best for my love ones to decide when I am in a critical condition. Being bed ridden is not a way to live and burdening your love ones to suffer emotionally and financially for the risk so that I can live is not something I also feel isn’t right. But, most of our love ones will decide to let their critically ill love ones to suffer from all these treatments to make one have a chance to live rather than bear the guilt of just letting one go to die. It’s a situation that’s truly difficult to be in and either way there’s really no right or wrong decisions on both sides if there’s a difference in opinion on what to do.

(4) It delve deeply into the hypocrisy of people and the way we judge others. We always think we will not do something against who we think we are and yet when put comes to shove we realized we can do exactly the same thing and even do something to the extent of what’s normally unthinkable to us.

(5) As I’ve mentioned, I don’t know much of the actors in this K-drama, although, I’ve seen Han Suk-Kyu and Seo Hyun-Jin in a couple of dramas but Yoo Yeon-Seok is new to me or maybe I just didn’t notice him. His looks is not my type to typically swoon over as K-Drama actors go and same with Seo Hyun-Jin, whom I don’t particularly find beautiful but they’ve both won me over because of their great acting skills they’ve shown on this K-drama. They also have such great chemistry together that I can’t help but root for them and feel really romantic when they are together especially when they kiss. That’s plain and simple talent when an audience like me started with a feeling of apathy and ended up with full commitment of caring about the lives of the characters in the story.

(6) I like that instead of the usual special episode done for successful K-Dramas, this one decided to present a prequel which is truly a treat for fans of the K-dramas like myself. We got to know more of the backend stories of the characters like the circumstances of what brought them together and why they are the way they are.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like in this K-drama. It indeed provided me not only great entertainment while watching it but it also provided philosophical messages that I can’t help but think the answers in my own opinion based on my own life.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? A Definite Yes and NOT to be missed.
