My Review:

Song Seung Hun is one of my favorite k-drama actors. He gets into projects that are interesting to watch. When I watched this k-drama, I was in a funk of not finding a good romcom k-drama except “Encounter” that’s still currently airing. I need to watch something that’s already done and need not to wait until the next episode. So, I stumble upon “Player” and decided to watch it because of Song Seung Hun. I wasn’t expecting much but, alas, I was totally surprised on how exciting it was. It reminded me of “Bad Guys” but brought its own unique brand through its characters and manner the story was presented.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Song Seung Hun brought his a-game in depicting the characters of Kang Ha Ri and Choi Soo Hyuk. This wasn’t new to me as he is one of the great k-actors that can actually act and doesn’t get by from looks alone. However, what’s so surprising on this k-drama are the talents shown by the rest of his crew, Krystal Jung as Cha Ah Ryung, Lee Shi Un as Im Byung Min and Tae Won Suk as Do Jin Woong. They have chemistry together and enhances the fun of watching the story as it unfolds. They compliment each other and made this k-drama great.

(2) I like the subplots and the back end stories of the each characters. This made the k-drama not boring to watch and will make one anticipate what will happen next. Each characters are given equal opportunity to shine with their own stories to tell and who they are as a person and not just part of the group.

(3) I don’t normally review in regard to the technical aspects of any k-dramas but, I make exceptions, every now and then either because it is extremely done well or horrendously bad. This one is because it is extremely good. I love the way the director presented the story and the way the writer created the story without much unnecessary characters and subplots. It was truly full of action with a good blend of comedy and drama. The director and creator of “Terius Behind Me”, should have taken one or 2 points from this k-drama on how to properly mix a good serious action drama with comedy.

(4) I like the fast pace of the story, so, there’s no time to twiddle your thumbs and get bored.

(5) It has the right execution of comedic scenes that’s more apparent on the verbal exchanges of the characters delivered by superb actors which made me laugh a couple of times. Even the obvious advertisings were blended well into the story and incorporated to make certain scenes funny. The comic relief didn’t hinder to what is serious about the plot.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

As much as I’ve enjoyed this k-drama, it does have flaws. The characters seem to have an unusual strength against intolerable injury and can endure even getting hit by a car. However, even with these scenarios, it is still so enjoyable to watch that I can ignore and forgive its glaring inadequacies against reality.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Definitely Yes.
