Synopsis:

It is about two people who have their own struggles in life and journey alone and together to surpass these challenges. Kim Young Ho or John Kim has endured his sickness alone when he was young. His mother died while fighting for his life to survive. As he matures, he learned to help those who are suffering as well. And, gained two great friends along the way and met Kang Joo-Eun the same way by helping her during her time of need. Kang Joo-Eun grew up being the most beautiful girl in her town and captured the heart of her first love, Im Woo-Shik, for 15 years. Although, you would expect Kang Joo-Eun to be full of herself as she is beautiful but she is actually opposite. She actually want to help others who are unfortunate. She knew how to be step on by other people when her father died. She decided to be a lawyer and during her struggles to pass the bar while taking care of her family, she totally forgot to take care of herself and gain so much weight to the point that Im Woo-Shik lost interest with her and went out with someone who used to be her friend. In the journey of Kang Joo-Eun to get back to who she was, she discovered love and new challenges to surpass.

My Review:

Truth to be told, I got interested to watch this K-Drama because of So Ji-Sub and Shin Min-A. Shin Min-A has never yet starred in a K-Drama that totally bombed and thank God this is not an exception. Actually, the entire K-Drama became interesting to me and was able to attract my attention to watch the entire 16 episodes because of the two. Honestly, the story of this K-Drama is not something special that you can say it’s different or even something you would like to watch in a marathon. I only did it because I need to do this review. Actually, on the first few episodes I thought it is going to be a passé story about the girl who lost her beauty, left by her man and became pretty again after going through the process of losing weight. In a sense somehow it was something like that but again thank God it wasn’t the entire gist of the story. It went beyond the shallow path of showing that life will be better when you become beautiful. Although, probably true in the real world and in my opinion if I have to choose which one and gotta pick only one of the two, then, I rather be pretty in this world than smart. Call me vain but one can skip most the harshness and cruelty if you are prettier. Being smart is for you not to get hungry, lol! Anyway, we are going off the tangent here, when you keep seeing a Cinderella story, it becomes quite tedious to watch. But, this K-Drama went beyond that, however, there’s really not much of a conflict or something to totally excite you to watch the next episode.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) It is a feel good K-Drama. Very light and didn’t make me feel I have to fast forward it.
(2) It is enjoyable to watch So Ji-Sub and Shin Min-A but for those who don’t know them, you will just enjoy the beauty of the two and the talent in their acting.
(3) It went beyond to the typical fat girl getting the handsome guy at the end story.
(4) Like some of its inspirational messages. “That anything is possible if you put your mind to it.” and “Life is about choices. It may not happen the way we want it and we may suffer from it but until it happens we have to choose to be happy.”
(5) I like the tips on how you can keep yourself fit.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

(1) There’s not much meat on the story. It is like watching your ordinary life with challenges along the way.
(2) If it wasn’t for So Ji-Sub and Shin Min-A, it will probably not that interesting to me in the long haul. If this is your first K-Drama and don’t know any of the actors, you might find it a bit boring. So, choose something else.
(3) The story should have been done in 12 episodes. They are just prolonging it with flashbacks. Its 16 episodes came by fast because the speed of resolving their conflicts are also done in 1 -2 episodes. It made you wonder why they made this K-Drama into 16. Probably because of So Ji-Sub and Shin Min-A, milk it as much as they can to earn.
(4) Not much of an OST to remember except with one song that’s quite good but not something I will play over and over again in my music selection.
(5) Again, pisses me off to have Korean characters who supposedly grew up in the States and yet they can’t speak English well. They have to stop doing this as it destroys the credibility of the entire background of the character.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes, if you want something very light and something to pass time.
