Synopsis:

Do Hyun Woo is a producer of TV shows and been married for 8 years with Jung Soo Yun, a beautiful and talented graphic designer. He thought he had a happy marriage even if the passion has been gone for quite sometime due to the mundane things life do brings in every marriage. However, even with his and her wife’s busy schedule and all the things sometimes already lacking in their marriage, he still thought he had a perfect marriage until one day all his illusions were shattered when he accidentally read an intimate and personal text messages on his wife’s mobile phone from a man. This started his journey of finding himself again as a man, rediscovering the beauty of his wife and learning to not take their love for granted.

My Review:

I watched this K-drama because it seems interesting to watch a topic wherein the affair is on the wife’s side instead of the husband’s side which is more often than not the premise in most dramas and films. It is good to see the perspective of a man when they feel that their woman is having an affair. The society as a whole has accepted this as norm for men but not for women, thus, seeing the wheels turned is something I’m interested to see. And, I’m pretty glad I did.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Lee Sun Gyun is quite effective in portraying Do Hyun Woo. I have seen Lee Sun Gyun in a few Korean films and he always bring his A-game in doing his roles which he did the same in this k-drama. I appreciate the process to which his character went through in the story as he wrestles on the thought of his wife having an affair. It is really refreshing to see a man go through the same excruciating experience where most women went through with their men with even in more difficult situation as society already accepts this as passé and an ordinary expectation for men to do. Watching a man go through the challenging process of betrayal is an eye-opener in way because it provides a message to the society that an affair is an affair and remains significantly painful whether it is man or a woman who is going through with it. Gender is not an acceptable excuse.

(2) I love the dialogues and how the writer and the director tackled the issue of infidelity. It has depth and showed that though people who ended up having an affair is not always similar to the case of Choi Yoon Gi, wherein an affair is just committed for the sake of truly just sleeping around. I somehow can relate to the plight of Jung Soo Yun as to why she ended up having an affair. It is indeed difficult to maintain the level of love and passion after several years of marriage and to be able keep who you are as an individual person as you face several challenges life throws at you. I believe she ended up doing it because it somehow became a solace of something she does just for her. It is difficult for us not to judge people who have been unfaithful but whether the reasons why they do it are just justifications or not is also truly never as well as simple as we normally considers it to be. I’m not saying it is not wrong but not all affairs are base only of having sex.

(3) All the actors are great in delivering their roles but I must applaud the talent of Song Ji Hyo as Jung Soo Yun. She has portrayed a woman who’s undergoing complexities that life brings and the difficulty when one gets lost of who one is as an individual person.

(4) There dramas and films I would like not to see too much reality because that’s the reason I’m wasting my time watching them for I need them to precisely escape reality. However, there are dramas and films I want reality to be there because they are simply needed to make the audience think in retrospect about their own lives while being entertained at the same time. On this k-drama, I would like to see the latter and the latter I did see. I love that it made me feel emotions in a lot of scenes and relate it to certain instances of my life. A lot of people would like to think that life is black and white but, actually, there’s really a lot of gray. Although most things are probably simple but people’s emotions are certainly complex. And, things are not always what they may seem, so, judging others of what they do whether we deem it wrong or not is not always our place to do especially when we are not in their shoes.

(5) I like the way this k-drama attack the issue of infidelity better than the other popular k-drama “On the Way to the Airport”. This k-drama doesn’t quibble and things are not resolve easily as we do go through the process of discovery, acceptance and healing particularly when one gets into a difficult and painful experiences. Forgiving and forgetting are not always on the same page and it takes time to achieve both. And, the journey took 12 episodes with an ending that shows a realistic view of life with hope.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

There’s nothing I can complain on how this k-drama was done. It has perfectly shown the challenges of marriage, the issues that relationships go through even if love exists and the journey of finding love again all in the span of 12 episodes.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? A Definite YES
