My Review:

I watched Hogu’s Love at that time because after watching real hardcore melodramas before it I wanted something light and funny. On the first two episodes I completely watched it because I was touched with Hogu’s trip with Do Hee. And, unbeknownst to him Do Hee was going through something really critical that will change her life forever. I also like Do Hee’s strength as she tried to make a decision on her own no matter what will be the consequences for her in the future. However, after that episodes there are a lot of nuisances of the drama that kinda bored me. I know a lot of people enjoyed this drama. There are actually good reviews on it but I ended up fast forwarding the episodes and just checked to find out what happened in the end. For some reason I lost to totally connect with this drama. I agree on some reviews and the questions it raises about some themes on Korean dramas wherein most of the time it depicts first love as the be all and the end all and how social issues later on are tackled in an evasive manner rather than head-on. Maybe they are more conservative than other cultures but I believe there’s something unrealistic of loving someone whom you haven’t met since your childhood years and be willing to sacrifice your future and definitely there are some social issues that needs to be shown in K-Dramas the way the real world truly is unless it is taboo to be shown on TV.

Would I recommend this K-Drama?
Not really, unless you can relate to Ho Go and his plight. Ho Goo is actually a very apt name as hogu in Korea means fool in English. In my humble opinion, if you want to be fooled and spend time watching it, then, do so. Others say they actually enjoyed it.

My Rating to this Drama: 2/5 Stars
