My Review:

If you’ve been watching Korean movies and dramas as long as I have, more than a decade actually, you already know the drill about the various cliché of Korean stories are, the gut wrenching revenge stories, dying of cancer, everlasting love since childhood, amnesia, and incredulous twist of fate. These are the norms and after awhile you become numb from feeling any emotions anymore. When I watched Stairway to Heaven more than a decade ago, I can’t seem to stop crying but after watching similar K-Dramas and Movies of the same theme, you just have no more tears left to shed. But, this K-Movie stands on its own unique category for it squeezes even more tears with scenes truly moments to remember. True, I’ve seen this film for the first time during those years where I was still not immune to the normal clichés of K-cinema but after watching it again a few hours ago just to refresh my deteriorating memory as well, mine is due to age, so, I can do this review, I still have to pause the player and take a moment as I can’t breathe anymore let alone read the subtitles. I believe that the beauty of a film comes from the collaboration of many talented people behind the scenes but it is having the right actors to portray the characters makes it come to life. Son Ye-jin and Jung Woo-sun made A Moment to Remember really something you need an Alzheimer’s Disease in order to forget. Son Ye-jin is so beautiful and innocent from the ends of her hair to the tip of her toes that I Iiterally wanted to be her. She has captured the very essence of her character. Truly some girls have all the luck. And, Jun Woo-sun…WOW…what a man. His handsomeness is something I wouldn’t typically go for but he made me want to marry him in this film. That I wouldn’t mind having that kind of a macho man like that in my life. His character in this film is the epitome of how you will describe when a man loves a woman. Generally, we get sad and tearful when we watch a film that has someone dying because you know someone is dying. But, on this film I didn’t cry because Kim Su-jin has Alzheimer’s Disease, I cried and can’t stop crying because of several touching and “cry me to the river” scenes showing the depth of their love for each other more so the love of Choi Chul-soo for Kim Su-jin. May I dare say it is even more poignantly sadder than the American Film “The Notebook”. At least in “The Notebook” they had a much longer life together, this one is cut too short . However, if I have to choose between living a long life just to survive and a shorter one experiencing that kind of love, I think I will choose the latter. That’s why I think that the ending of the film was done like that because the story is not truly about dying but it is about the kind of love one can really give without reservations on the moments one rather truly wants to forget.

Would I recommend this K-Movie? A Resounding YES
