My Review:
I watched with excitement this second season after waiting for almost a year after the first one. Normally, it is hard to watch a second season when you’ve seen the first one 9 months after because there are some parts of the story you’ve somehow already forgotten. So, re-watching Season 1 & 2 again consecutively for this review is much better. I highly recommend that you do that if you haven’t seen both seasons of Vampire Prosecutor. What is great about Season 2 is that it didn’t change much all the goodies I like on Season 1. The director is smart enough to retain what works. And, I must say he succeeded in his goal in making it as good than Season 1 albeit shorter in 1 episode than the first season.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Even with Season 1, I always appreciate the complexity of each cases. It is always not what it seems to be. And, it is a reflection of good writing.
(2) Although, I miss the sexual overtone of the previous coroner that gives lighter feel to a somber team, the new coroner Jo Jung-Hyun provides professionalism for forensic pathologists that may have been offended on the previous one especially those who takes everything too seriously.
(3) I enjoy that it dwells now more on the evolution of the vampires on their neck of the woods, figuratively speaking. And, the snippets every end of the episode like the Season 1 is something I do like because it gives me, as an audience, something to look forward to on the next episode.
(4) I am glad they have retained almost all of the original casts except for the coroner and the chief. It provides fluidity to the flow of the story and for those who invested in waiting for this season to come out after being a fan of Season 1.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
There’s not much I do not like, but, due to certain manner on how the story play out, Season 1 ends up more of my favorite season between the two but doesn’t affect in any way the quality of both seasons.
(1) First, I have a petty comment, what’s with the hair style and eye liner of Yeon Jung-Hoon playing as Min Tae-Yeon on the first earlier episodes? I mean the eye liner is already there on Season 1 but do they have to make him look like a gay vampire. I have nothing against gays, just to be clear, but, it doesn’t even look good on him. He looks like a caricature and for some reason, Korean actors have this thing of looking more like a girl in hair and fashion style.
(2) There’s something confusing in the story particularly near the last few episodes as it reaches the ending. I won’t discuss them in details because it may ruin the suspense for you if you do plan to watch it. For sure you will know what I am talking about when you watch it. The parts such as the real relevance of the character of Park Jae-Hoon in the story for this season? His rumblings as he talks to Min Tae-Yeon while he tied him up. Or, the character of Kwon Hyun-Sang as L wherein I wonder why he is so focus in doing harm or delivering his message about how the world is in his eyes to Min Tae-Yeon? I really don’t understand what he wants from him. I am assuming that all my confusions on certain parts of the story were either due to lost in translation or the K-Drama was planning to have a 3rd season which currently it seems not gonna happen.
(3) How I wish the ending is similar to what they did in Season 1, so, at least the audience who invested watching it will not be totally disappointed if Season 3 will not happen.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes, Strongly Recommends It.
