My Review:

For over a year now, I kinda lost my interest in watching romcoms because the South Korean entertainment industry seems to be producing less and less good romcom stories. Thus, I became interested in watching more of the action and suspense genre. OCN is one of the cable channels in South Korea that produces interesting k-dramas that can successfully deliver such genre. “The Lies Within” is not an exception even if I’m not a fan of the leading actors not because I don’t like them but they don’t belong to the list of my favourite actors to follow.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Lee Min Ki as Jo Tae-Sik is quite exceptional on this k-drama, however, Lee Joon-Hyuk as Yoo Dae-Yong and Sea-Hyun Woo as In Dong-Gu are the stars of this k-drama. Their portrayal of their characters were truly impressive in my opinion.

(2) I like that this k-drama stuck to its genre from start to finish. The suspense and the surprises the story of this k-drama gave to me as an audience was worth waiting its showing week after week.

(3) I like stories with characters that remain true to themselves and they don’t suddenly change in their principles and actions just so that the audience who lives in watching happily ever after k-dramas will be satisfied.

(4) I am a fan of writers who can come up with stories like this especially those who can show harsh realities of life yet still showcase some of the goodness of people and ends it in a realistic but hopeful note.

(5) The director was able to show the labyrinth of lies in the story but without confusing much the audience. It was entertaining for me even if the plot is not a romcom.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

(1) I can’t seem to find a connection with the actress, Lee Yoo-Young as Kim Seo-Hui, on her character role. Although, she’s passable as an actress, I dd not fully develop an attachment with her in her role. It would have been better if the production has gotten a much compelling actress.

(2) It always irks me when simple police procedures are not followed in a police or procedural drama, although, some of its errors were part of the story but the basic ones still need to be observe. For example, Jo Tae-Sik’s continuous amnesia to use gloves while checking evidence.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes
