My Review:
As I’ve mentioned in one of my recent reviews, currently, there were quite a lot of K-Dramas that have popular k-drama actors in it but the stories were not as stellar as its actors. I don’t know why this is so. Maybe there’s a draught of good materials, so, these actors in order to have work, they just get into it and make it. “Romance Is A Bonus Book” is, unfortunately, one of these k-dramas. Probably, it is not as bad for some who are new to watching k-dramas but for someone like me who’ve been at it for more than 15 years, predictable stories become difficult to watch from beginning to end.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Lee Jong Suk is a good actor and, though, his character here sometimes makes me cringe when he’s trying to be cute, he still was able to passably made Cha Eun Ho a lovable character.
(2) Lee Na Young has been out of doing k-dramas for quite some time especially since she got married and have a child with Won Bin. So, she and her character, Kang Dan Yi, have something in common and can readily delve into the character to resonate Kang Dan Yi’s reality to the audience.
(3) The OST is nice.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Lee Na Young did a good job with her character, however, unlike Song Hye Kyo in “Encounter”, who really tried to do as much significant intimate scenes with Park Bo-Gum because the genre though a romcom have a mature theme, Lee Na Young made it really kosher until the end. This is not good because the audience knowing her status in real life can’t relate to her character as her real one is very much into the scenes preventing her from doing what’s necessary for the story.
(2) The story is so passé that watching the first 2 episodes and the last 2 gave me already an idea of what it is all about and what happened to them. It isn’t really necessary for me to invest and waste 16 hours and so of my life to watch the rest.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? Not really unless you are a fan of the main leads.
