My Review:
Honestly, because I enjoyed so much the different and innovative ways Korean dating shows go without even allowing the participants to express their emotions to their chosen person with very little physical intimate contact, I can’t help but check them all out. Thus, I dived into this Pink Lie which has a very interesting concept, because generally we tend to have our own biases and prejudices get in the way for us to get to know better the person we are interested due to this. I’m glad I did watch this show.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) The pink lies of each participants were diverse from quite a serious consideration when you are looking for a partner to the most benign. I guess, some participants, felt their secret is quite serious because of their previous experiences and, probably, more prominent due to the culture in SK, but, for me, majority of them is not an issue especially if I developed feelings for that person. Having said that, the basis of the secrets or lie is understandable especially if long term relationship or marriage is the goal.
(2) I like that the airtime given to the hosts of the show doesn’t hinder too much on the flow and time needed for the audience to see more what’s going on with the participants unlike other Korean dating shows. You also get to see that the hosts are interpreting things similar probably to their own experiences as the show unfolds.
(3) I am in awe and with great respect to the participants who joined the show and have a secret related to the sex industry especially that this is a Korean show and SK’s culture is very conservative. This truly allows people to see that these people are also human and doesn’t deserve our harsh judgements. Some make mistakes and others may have no choice at that time when they did these things. Though, it is indeed quite difficult not to take a pause when the one you are interested in had a background of working in the sex industry, it shouldn’t also be the only reason why we can’t love them and see them for who they are.
(4) I enjoyed that this show in every episode provided surprising revelations including the ending. I only guessed the obvious one and its unpredictability is what made me enjoyed so much the show.
(5) The one thing I love about this show is that majority of the participants made a decision of whom to choose in the end not only based on the physical attraction to the person they are interested in, but, if they can really be together after the show for the long haul. They really weigh the situations seriously.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
After watching for so long Korean dramas, movies and now datings shows, I feel I have settled to what I really like and the “not so much”. And, surprisingly, unlike the majority who ends up liking more popular shows due to probably good marketing or where it was shown, I don’t normally go for them. This is the same in Dating shows. Unlike most who loves Singles Inferno which for me is not that bad, but, typical in my book. I considered Singles Inferno just more conservative version of western dating shows. This is not the same for Pink Lie and other Korean Dating shows that are not available in mainstream sites globally. I really don’t have a bad comment on Pink Lie from start to finish. Moreover, I truly respect the production of this show with the main intent of breaking the prejudices of people when it comes to dating. There are a number of things that can go wrong because of certain sensitive issues, but, the production excellently pulled it off with much excitement and uniqueness.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? A Definite Yes
