My Review:
This is the 3rd human and robot love story I watched. The first one is “I’m Not A Robot”, second one, “Are You Human Too?”and this. I must say that, although, I enjoyed watching this k-drama and Yeo Jin Goo as Zero-Nine gave me a more feel on the dramatic part of the story, I still prefer if I have to choose from the 3, “I’m Not A Robot” even if it probably has the lowest ratings among the 3. It is because “I’m Not A Robot” has a more realistic story even if it is a romcom.
(1) Yeo Jin Goo as Zero-Nine or Young Goo as expected delivered his soulful acting chops on his character. His sweet and bright smile is truly something that one can’t help but fall in love with. He made it work and made this k-drama entertaining to watch.
(2) I first saw Bang Min Ah in the “Master’s Sun”, although, I can’t hardly remember her on that k-drama due to a powerhouse leading casts. However, on this k-drama she did shine and created a connection with Yeo Jin Goo’s character. They look good together and make you want to root for them for their love to succeed. And, this maybe banal and ridiculous to mention, but, I can’t help but notice with her wearing shorts most of the time that she does have nice legs.
(3) The supporting casts are good but Choi Sung-Won as Nam Bo-Won and Hong Jong Hyun as Ma Wong Joon take the cake for me. I like that Ma Wong Joo’s character is not typical of most k-drama in a love triangle who’s bitter and angry. He is just a normal guy who naturally reacts to his consequences of losing the girl he loves and wants back. While Nam Bo-Won bromance with Zero-Nine is very touching. True and real friends are very hard to find, thus, it is nice to see that kind of love on screen.
(4) I love the set of this k-drama especially the house and work place of Uhm Da Da. It has character and it does brought the feel of Uhm Da Da’s love of his late father and her love for Young Goo.
(5) The OST is nice.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
Since this is the 3rd human-robot romcom, I wish the director and the writer took the weaknesses of the previous romcoms that deals with this topic and, at least, improve it from its predecessors, and, yet, somehow, the director and writer didn’t make that effort. It would have been a lot better in comparison to the other 2 wherein the fantasy of an AI to be more human becomes more believable.
(1) Although, it explains how Zero Nine can eat and drink but it doesn’t really explain a lot of things. Like he’s been training for a year yet somehow doesn’t know basic events or emotions considering he’s created as a dating companion.
(2) As I mentioned that of all 3 human-robot romcom, I prefer “I’m Not A Robot” because their chance to love each other is more believable as she’s actually human. I, like Baek Kyu-Ri’s and Ma Wong Joon’s characters agree on their concerns. Issue like sex, children, and ageing for humans and maintenance for robots are realistic questions on this kind of pair up. Romantic love doesn’t last forever and that’s a human fact. It all develops into a deeper love or not as humans are fallible and in time a lot of issues can take place that may not end in a happy ending. Thus, although, I enjoy the merits of this kind of relationships in a romcom, it never really sink in to me that it will indeed have a happy ending.
(3) I get an ending with a question mark that leaves its interpretation to the audience but I don’t like endings that totally hangs you dry like “Where Stars Land” that I didn’t get to see the face of the main character, this one is even worst as it dropped 2 clues. I rather not say what I am talking about as I don’t want to spoil it for you but you’ll get what I mean when you reach the end and if you are really observant, you will ask that same question as I did “who did she really end up with?”.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes
