Synopsis:

Kim Soo Hyun grew up as a trained killer. Pavel, a killer for hire, saved Kim Soo Hyun from death and adopted him as his own. Kim Soo Hyun lost his memory and has been trying to find who he was ever since. During his search, all was leading towards Hansol Orphanage and the child known #88. A mysterious client hired him to kill a list of people and the incentive is the revelation of his lost memory. It would have been an easy task for him until he met Do Hyun Jin, a beautiful and smart detective, the daughter of Do Jae Hwan, a rich and powerful man who are both connected to his past. Kim Soo Hyun against all odds developed a special bond with Do Hyun Jin that endangers his mission, his quest of fully finding his past, doing what he needs to do to achieve his task and in doing what he knows best to do, to kill.

My Review:

Jang Ki Yong is the very first k-drama actor that made me feel the way I felt for Kwon Sang Woo as a fan. However, unlike Kwon Sang Woo who gets typical roles of a heartthrob or hallyu star, Jang Ki Yong seems to choose roles without focusing much on this issue, which, for me, honestly, a lot better. This allows him to get projects that highlight more his ability to act rather than just looking good. Luckily indeed, the k-dramas he gets into whether small or big roles do provide him the venue to do just that and effectively showcase what his talent can bring to the table. “Kill It” is another surprisingly good k-drama that’s worthy for him to showcase what he got as an actor.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Jang Ki Yong is one of those rare breed of actors that both have the looks and the talent. He shows certain depth when he acts. When one watches him, one tends to forget all about him as an actor and remembers more the character he plays. I like that he chooses k-dramas and roles with edge because these roles may not be the typical roles that one can immediately become popular but it will certainly makes one become a respected actor. He becomes better and better with every k-drama I see him in and “Kill It” certainly is not an exception.

(2) Nana as Do Hyun Jin certainly match with the looks and talent of Jang Ki Yong. They look good together and certainly provide sparks for me to continually care about what happens to their character. Although, you can already sense that the ending may not be the way I would like it to be but it only make sense because its gives credence to the story.

(3) I always love this kind of suspense and action genre. It has all the ingredients that allows me to crave for Saturday and Sunday to come asap and anticipate watching its new episodes yet hoping the k-drama will not yet end.

(4) I like that the story is fast pace. There’s no time to be bored and give one an itchy finger to press fast forward.

(5) The production value and execution were excellent and, although, some may say that the story has been done before especially the way it ended, it still didn’t lessen for me to not love it.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

There’s not much k-dramas that I look forward to in watching these last couple of months except this and it pissed me off that they cut the number of episodes from 16 to 12. I would have love to have seen an intimate scene between Kim Soo Hyun and Do Hyun Jin and for their relationship to progress a little bit. This will at least lessen the sadness of the ending for me. Moreover, I have no understanding on the kind of k-drama stories that rates in South Korea because most of those who have good ratings there have typical and predictable story lines and sometimes bordering to really being crappy with only big actors as its saving glory while those with quality ends up in the chopping block. The international audience somehow have a different take than there. So, I guess, it’s just a matter of taste, culture and mind set. I’m just sad that projects like this are not given the proper accolades that it deserved.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Definitely YES.
