My Review:
I’ve always known Kim Sun Ah takes projects that may not be always popular but always have good stories to tell. I learned my lesson well when I almost pass up “Should We Kiss First?”, when I thought it was going to be boring and too much of a drama. And, boy, how wrong I was on that one. Thus, when this k-drama came about, I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. And, guess, this time my assumption was right and didn’t make an a- – of myself and in return enjoyed a great mystery.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Kim Sun Ah has always been a great actress and her portrayal on the role of Cha Woo Kyung is no different in excellence from her other k-dramas. What I like about her is she can be different and truly adapt to what the character requires.
(2) The topic of child abuse is a very serious premise to tackle. One can’t help but be affected and feel indignant on how cruel some people can be. However, it is the inspiration of this k-drama to show that no matter how evil people are, we are not the judge and jury and shouldn’t take matters into our own hands. It is truly indeed difficult to be so especially when one is in the midst of such atrocity, thus, the stark difference of the path taken by Cha Woo Kyung and Lee Eun Ho can initiate a discussion among those who watched this k-drama. It triggers our own opinions on this matter.
(3) The supporting casts were great especially Lee Yi Kyung as Kang Ji Hun who embodied a flawed human being but willing to do what is right and according to the law.
(4) Even without any tinge of romance, the story is compelling enough to make it interesting to watch and written well that made it all worthwhile to watch it for 16 hours or so.
(5) The way the story unfolds was concise and effective, so, even if the story is dark and sobering, I still got immersed in the interest of watching it from start to finish.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
This is not normally the kind of k-drama I prefer to watch as I often lean towards to the light and entertaining ones. Having said that, this k-drama is one of those that deserve accolades in tackling a difficult subject yet was able to deliver it without being too grim and all over the place. In the end, I don’t find anything wrong with it. It forces you to be aware of how evil people can be and what we can do to change it. This is a lot, lot, lot better in substance than “Terius is Behind Me” and “Memories of Alhambra” that wasted the talent of its actors and my precious time of watching them.
Would I recommend this K-Drama?Yes.
