My Review:

Ever since I’ve seen Lee Sang-Yoon in a k-drama, I already liked him. He is like his character on this k-drama who has a quiet charm that creeps up on you and discover that you are already into him. He is like that with me as a fan of k-dramas. So, I watch all of his k-dramas and enjoy seeing him in his projects such as this one, “VIP”.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) I’m not that a fan of Jang Na-Ra but on this k-drama she has done exceptionally well. She shed out the goody two shoes she often play in the k-dramas she’s in. And, although, her character is still somewhat like that but at least this time around, her role that she’ve chosen is real and not a caricature. She excellently portrayed Na Jung-Sun with maturity and depth especially on scenes when she’s trying to control herself to show too much emotions.

(2) I like that the k-drama has shown the challenges that most of the time women go through in life such as issue of infidelity and sexual harassment, yet, the k-drama also shown the other side of the coin, when necessary, to make the storyline whole for every characters involved.

(3) The story between Park Sung-Joon and On Yoo-Ri was also depicted in a fair manner. I know, almost all women, may not understand any form of betrayal and I am not saying I do, but, On Yoo-Ri’s story is not one dimension that creates empathy to the audience like me. Same as the Park Sung-Joon’s feelings and actions. I know that what they did is wrong, but, still it’s not born out of malice and just for the sake of physical intimacy. There’s a side of the story of who they are that one can understand and empathise even if it is not the right thing to do.

(4) I appreciate the director on his directorial style and made a typical storyline quite different with his big reveal on the mystery woman, even if, the bottom line, the plot has been seen hundreds of times in dramas and not only in Korean dramas.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Although I am a fan of Lee Sang-Yoon’s talent as a k-drama actor, lately, he chooses roles who are similar with each other. Also, I find the stories either dragging or passe. I feel that he is underestimating himself and should choose something different even if on this k-drama he is portrayed as a fallible man. Still the storyline is quite typical and ordinary that just became different due to the technique on how the story was played out on each episode.

(2) It took almost 8 episodes to reveal the mystery woman to the point that it became dragging. I watched it just because I like Lee Sang-Yoon and wanted to see if I was right. They made it a mystery but they could have shorten the time to reveal. I guess, if they didn’t, this k-drama will be like any other k-drama that deals with infidelity. The VIP is just a way to make this k-drama become more interesting than it is.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes
