My Review:
As I have enjoyed the Queen Mystery Season 1 and, of course, it is after all my oppa’s k-drama, it is not surprising that I will watch it. However, what is surprising is that it became one of the k-dramas that went downhill for me and ended up skipping episode 8-15 and went right ahead to the ending. It was a big let down and sad for me as I really wanted to like this k-drama even for the sake of my true love for Kwon Sang Woo.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Kwon Sang Woo is still handsome and as dashing as before. I enjoyed watching him on my computer screen in all of his scenes. However, no matter how much I crave to watch him, it didn’t last as I found a total disconnect as to how the direction of the story is leading to.
(2) I actually found Oh Min Suk as Gye Sung Woo quite fun and entertaining to watch. He gave a little flavor to the story while I was still rustling in my heart to love this k-drama.
(3) I like that most of the characters on season 1 came back and did the season 2. This provided continuity of the story from Season 1.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
As everyone who knows me, that my heart belongs to Kwon Sang Woo as his avid fan. I was ecstatic when he did the first season of Queen of Mystery as I thoroughly enjoyed it even if it wasn’t perfect. However, this second season, there’s a certain disconnect on my end no matter how much I want to love it.
(1) There are some comedic scenes like the first 2 episodes that I found forced and not engaging. It is like watching the 2 main characters that I enjoyed in the first season trying too hard to build their chemistry that got lost along the wait of making Season 2.
(2) The non-existent romance between that characters of Yoo Sul Ok and Ha Wan Seung or the k-dramas effort to just skid around the edges of it because probably Kwon Sang Woo has difficulty to rise above on doing scenes with physical intimacy with his leading ladies being a married man in real life kinda affected the entire tone of this k-drama in my eyes. How I wish the actors and actresses can separate their work from their personal feelings but I guess it is indeed difficult, thus, I guess, they are better off single while they are in their height of their careers because there’s not much restricted limitations or barriers to do scenes that are significant or relevant to their characters they portray.
(3) The treatment as a whole by the director to the entire season 2 on this k-drama’s delivery has a subtle difference yet I can fully sense its difference and indeed affected the pace and the tone of the entire thing on an entertainment level in my book. There are a lot of moments that it didn’t hold my interest, thus, I skip from Episode 7 the rest of the other episodes and went straight to its ending. Alas, I can still guess what happened. Truly wish the 1st PD did this as well rather than the replacement.
(4) There’s still too many unanswered questions in the ending. Thus, if there’s no season 3, then, it will remain hanging.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? If you are like who is a die hard fan of Kwon Sang Woo, then, yes but if not, then, not really.
