Synopsis:

Moon Soo Ho has a sad childhood when his father died in a fire and was forced to live with the family of Jung Hae Ra. When he left, he went to a medical school in the US but, eventually, became a successful and rich businessman. Luck was on his side ever since he met this strange woman, Jang Baek Hee. However, in the midst of his success he still longs for Jung Hae Ra, thus, hired someone to search for her. Luck again came into play as they met accidentally in Slovenia. Everything seems to be falling into place until their real past lives came in the way of the present. Moon Soo Ho and Jung Hae Ra are the reincarnation of Lee Myung So and Boon Yi during the Joseon era, a love that ended in a tragedy because of obsessive jealousy and rage of Lee Myung So’ wife. The present lives of Soo Ho and Hae Ra may end up the same way, as the past is still enmesh with the current Seo Rin, Lee Myung So’s wife, who’s now known as Sharon and still lives after 250 years. My Review:

As I’ve mentioned often in my reviews, I lean towards in my decisions on what I watch base on the actor/s in it and/or the premise of the story. With this one, it was because of Kim Rae Won and the premise looks interesting. Although, I enjoyed watching Kim Rae Won, I didn’t really like much the story especially the justifications the writers created to make the supernatural things happening plausible. There’s a review site I often visit, and in one of her reviews she said that liking what one watches depends on how close one wanna look at it in the magnifying glass. Somehow, this stayed with me because it is true. My reviews are based mostly on how much I was entertained and the story, no matter how implausible it maybe, it should at least provide backend history that makes it somehow logical and not to the point that it treats the audience borderline to stupidity. This k-drama along with “Goblin” seem to be on the same page, the actors are great, the premise started good but as the story progresses, one just wants to shout in frustration of the miss chance to make it really better even great.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Kim Rae Won has always been a great actor, he has done well on this one too. However, no matter how great he was, he can’t revive the nonsensical premise of the story with so many loopholes to justify what’s going on.

(2) There were a lot of romantic scenes between Kim Rae Won as Moon Soo Ho and Shin Se Kyung as Jung Hae Ra. I enjoyed most of it but sometimes it feels like an overload.

(3) The scenery of Slovenia was so beautiful. It was picturesque and a spectacular place to start and end the love story between Moon Soo Ho and Jung Hae Ra.

(4) I like the OST.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

(1) Although, I enjoy many of the romantic scenes and it wasn’t as boring as I found the story of “Goblin” but still half of the time I was getting bored.

(2) Some of the supporting characters are quite irritating, like Choi Ji Hoon and Park Cheol-Min’s characters. They simply get on my nerves and don’t appreciate watching these characters.

(3) There’s no sense or event that gave any logic on the premise of the story. At least with “Goblin”, in fairness, tried to provide a more sensical justification of the mystery behind Goblin. This one, it is just the way it is, thus, it didn’t try even to provide a semblance of sense to the audience of why there’s power in the wishes and curse of Boon Yi.

(4) The transition of the characters showing that they are getting older as time passes by miserably failed. They should have hired a better make-up artist.

(5) Black Knight could have been a great k-drama but the writer and the director weren’t able to present the story in a better way. After 20 episodes, it didn’t even make sense as to why Moon Soo Ho has to suffer the loneliness and pain of immortality and sadly ended with not much hope and point as to why.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Not Really but if you are a fan of Kim Rae Won, then, I guess, it’s okay.
