Synopsis:

Sung Hae-Sung is a senior at Chungho High School. He grew up with his grandmother and he takes care of his 4 younger siblings. He is happy in his life even if his family is in financial difficulty. He found support and love from his friends and someone special, Jung Jung Won. Everything was looking bright for him with his plans until he unexpectedly died at the age of 19. 12 years later he woke up at the rooftop of his school and the year is 2017 and everything and everyone he knows has changed. He needs to cope of what he is going to do now, the struggle of how to live in a world that is totally different from what he knew before and to finally clear his name for the sake of his family.

My Review:

Honestly, it is getting harder and harder to find quality k-dramas with great actors and story. Most of the time, it is one but not the other. Although, because I’m simply a k-drama addict and this is my stress-relief I still prefer to watch them even if sometimes it is not that good or good but goes downhill as it unfolds later. However, I still plough through to get my fix and when a great one ends, it is hard not to feel sad. This is what I felt for Reunited Worlds. It is one k-drama that truly has a surprisingly great story to tell even with the fantasy element in it. And, with actors that made it fun to watch. The latter may not be all exceptional but the story is.

So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?

(1) The plot of the story is certainly intriguing. It is out of the ordinary even if the subject matter has been tackled before, thus, from the start it was already entertaining to watch.

(2) I love that there are funny moments that really made me laugh out loud especially between Shin Ho-Bang and Hong Jin-Joo. They are such a character that I enjoyed their funny moments especially about the brazilian waxing. Just thinking about it made me truly smile.

(3) The after life and even a sort of resurrection topic is challenging to handle as premise of the story. It is a slippery slope if the writer and the director are not able to make it believable at a certain level. However, korean dramas are quite an expert in handling these fantastical elements of the story. They skid around it and focus more on the human factor and what is real. The fantasy is there but it just adds to the flavor of the story without making it ludicrous. That’s the talent of k-drama entertainment. They can tackle all sorts of out of this world possibilities without really fully delving into it yet still making the audience fall hook, line and sinker for the story anyway. Reunited Worlds is such a k-drama and I love it.

(4) The casts are really good in delivering their roles especially Yeo Jin-Goo as Sung Hae-Sung who carried the entire story to make it more believable and enticing to see on 40 episodes. I believe he is an actor to watch who will do even greater acting roles in the future plus he has the face and charm to make it work. I do agree to some of the reviews, though, that Jung Chae Yun as the younger Jung Jung Won is much better than the main lead actress playing the same role. She has more chemistry with Yeo Jin-Goo and portrayed her role to a T. However, Lee Yun Hee is not that bad as the older Jung Jung Won but she somehow lacks the “it” factor to connect with the audience or even with his leading man. I also want to mention the spectacular delivery of Ahn Kil Kang as Ahn Tae Bok even if it is a short supporting role. He made an impression to me and his scenes makes a mark to me.

(5) There’s certain unpredictability on the mystery surrounding the murder, although, the reason it happened is not complicated and so simple but its simplicity actually added more on its plausibility and realistic value considering the age of the characters when it did happen. The mystery of its death is not focus so much in it by itself but the destruction of what it left behind on the lives of the people surrounding it. Yeo Jin-Goo was such a talent in almost all the scenes that a lesser actor will not be able to deliver without overacting. He portrayed his character’s emotions splendidly and can’t help but admire him especially on episode 32 during the revelation of who really did it. He hardly said a word but his face says it all.

(6) It had affected me emotionally which is becoming rare nowadays as I grow older when I watch dramas and films but tears well in my eyes in the last 2 episodes.

What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?

This k-drama is not flawless but the flaws are not something that matters or greatly affected my enjoyment for this k-drama. However, if I will mention one flaw that kinda affected the romantic side of the story is the intimacy or lack thereof between Sung Hae-Sung and the older Jung Jung Won. I am assuming that this is probably why there’s a tepid reception on this k-drama. Yeo Jin-Goo and Lee Yun Hee don’t have this spark when they are together, so, some may not care for their relationship. It would have been perfect if they got another actress to play the role especially since it is challenging enough to make it work on screen a romance between a young man and an older woman even if the story justifies it.

Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes
