Synopsis:
Moo Jin-Hyuk is a competent and 1st class detective but he spiralled into oblivion when his wife was raped and brutally killed by a serial killer. He got demoted and became a police patrol who lashes anger to suspects and carelessly just go through his life. While Kang Kwon-Joo, is an emergency call center responder who has a special talent and keen sense of hearing she developed when she became blind at 12 and retained it even after she regains her sight after 2 years. Her father died at the same time as Moo Jin-Hyuk’ wife did. Moo Jin-Hyuk’s and Kang Kwon-Joo’s lives intertwined when the person who killed his wife and her father ends up to be the same person. Circumstances brought them to work together through the Golden Time Team created precisely to address critical response to victims of crimes. Together they may finally solve the mystery of the death of their loved ones and capture the real culprit to bring him to justice.

My Review:
I watched this K-Drama because I also like action and crime dramas and I’ve watched a few of korean ones that are really great like Signal. Moreover, Jang Hyuk is one of the best actors in my book in the k dramaland. This K-Drama actually had some controversies about being too violent but I guess it is necessary to draw an impact to the audience. Crime is violent per se. We can’t make it like a Cinderella story, can we?
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) Even with not so perfect details, every case is so exciting. It was directed in such suspense that I stop breathing on certain episodes due to heart stopping plots. This K-Drama is one of OCN top rating k-drama and I can understand why. It will definitely not render you to sleep. In fact, it will keep you wide awake for all the vile evil humans can do to another. There’s not much humor to it because it set a tone of a serious criminal series which is perfect for its genre.
(2) The events happen so quickly, there’s really no time to be bored.
(3) The actors are all great especially Jang Hyuk as Moo Jin-Hyuk and Kim Jae-Wook as Mo Tae-Goo. They certainly depict to a T light and day, good and evil.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
The one thing I often complaint about K-Dramas is that most of them are not into details. This K-Drama would have been perfect from start to finish if details were taken care of well. I have no idea if the police procedures or medical services are really like that in South Korea but considering it is a developed country, I am assuming that these mistakes are done for cinematic purposes or budget cuts. But, honestly, these are the things that truly irk me when it comes to K-dramas especially those that are great ones like this that are marred by such incompetence of keeping it real. There are simply more details that seriously and blatantly ignored that somehow it lessens my enjoyment and the one thing that truly bothers me on these things is that it could have been easily fixed by the production. Thus, I’m rating it less than perfect because it somehow made it become less entertaining for me even if I am not into technical stuff. Its mistakes are so glaring that it simply can’t be ignored no matter how much I tried.
(1) From the get go in Episode 1, the criminal protocols are not followed. I don’t know if this is how crime scenes are really handled in South Korea but it is strange that you will allow a drunkard husband to contaminate the crime scene just because it happens to be your colleague. On Episode 3, how can an old man immediately placed an injured child behind the wall when the kid is hurt and bleeding and he is suffering from arthritis?
(2) Although, I love the suspense of each episodes, it so frustrating sometimes to watch stupid moves especially from a first grade detective. Why don’t you shoot the tires of a running car, so, it will stop? Isn’t that the best way? Can you kill someone, and gouge their eyes without a drop of blood in your pristine clothes?
(3) Sometimes I wonder how can private security stop a police in going to their suspects when a murder just happened in the vicinity?
(4) Is there no protocol in recording and keeping of evidence? How can evidence be manipulated so easily with the other detectives and prosecutors not knowing it was tampered?
(5) The leading characters are dealing with very dangerous criminals and yet by looking how they take care of their security at home and protection of their family is a mess including the type of gun they used.
(6) I always see mistakes on how paramedics handles a patient in ambulance scenes in K-Dramas. You don’t have to be in a medical genre to make decent scene for this. It is like if you just allow a patient to lie down on a stretcher in an ambulance, it will somehow make everything okay.
(7) How stupid can you get to confront a dangerous killer in barefoot and your choice of weapon is a knife? Where’s her gun? And, didn’t she see all the evidence done on the feet of the victims? Seriously?!? And, what about confronting a serial and dangerous killer while drunk even if you consider yourself a competent detective? What do you expect the outcome will be at such a stupid decision even if you’re feeling guilty of betraying your best friend and you want to make amends? Really?!?
(8) The jammer is off, she can clearly see on the monitors where the killer is, how can she not talked to her partner to guide him where the psychopath is?
Would I recommend this K-Drama? Yes, just look the other way on the many stupid details and savor the thrill of its suspenseful scenes.
