My Review:
I got interested watching this K-Drama after reading so much great things about it. The netizens and die hard k-drama fans talks about how funny it was and the entertainment it brings. Well, I’m certainly all for entertainment, so, I finally got my brain convinced to check it out. Initially, I thought it was going to be a slapstick kind of a comedy. I like entertainment but not that kind. But, glad to say, it got better and better and it turned out to be a comedy with a lot of meat in the story which in the end indeed my kind of entertainment.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) I like the actors and the characters that they play in the story. Even if it is a comedy, what is happening is much relevant and really happening in the real world. Albeit they were presented in a light manner and sometimes comical, it doesn’t minimize the struggle we do get into in our real life in order to survive just like the characters. The actors certainly delivered the characters well especially Namgoong Min as Kim Sung-Ryong or Chief Kim.
(2) There are quite a lot of touching plots with good messages. This K-Drama doesn’t preach but shows you stories of how should one count their blessings. There’s a lot of people who suffer injustices in the world more than we are in but one can rise above it. One can change if we do decide to change. We are bless as humans to have the freedom of choice.
(3) I like the characters’ backstories that allows the audience to understand why they are the way they are and what motivates them.
(4) The development of the characters wasn’t force. They don’t change overnight and the director was able to successfully depict the character’s transition without forcing down to the throat of the audience to just accept the miraculous 360 degrees change of the character’s personality and beliefs.
(5) I like the OST especially one great song “How It Happens”
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
There’s nothing much I don’t like about this K-Drama and whatever faults it has it was smartly covered by the comedic tone of the entire K-Drama. I simply enjoyed it a lot to care much of its faults, if there’s any.
Would I recommend this K-Drama? A resounding Yes.
