My Review:
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
I must be honest that I watched this K-Drama because of the main lead and it is done by tvN. tvN rarely miss in delivering quality K-Dramas that are unique of its own. Although, a lot of the fans prefer Goblin, I much prefer this.
(1) I like the element of suspense of this K-Drama involving time travel. Although, this topic is quite tricky if you don’t do it right but this K-Drama was able to focus more on the mysterious connection of the characters and it successfully made the time travel element just a part of the conflict of the story as it evolves.
(2) I like the depiction of the emotional journey of the 2 leads. It puts a lot of depth on the story than simply about the nuances of time traveling.
(3) I like that this K-Drama makes one thinks about the much deeper meaning and the true effect of time traveling on one’s life. The reality of knowing the future and what we are really supposed to do when we do know what happens. Do we change it or not? Do we even have the right to? The argument of whether we truly have a choice or everything that happens in our lives are meant to be will play in your head as you watch this K-Drama. For me, I always believe that we do have choices in our lives and the result depends on what we chose to presently do as this will define the fate of what will happen in the end.
(4) I enjoyed the last 2 episodes more than the other in between episodes. It has more meat and the suspense are better paced. Much of the critical questions on the scenes from previous episodes are swiftly explained that gel the story all together.
(5) I like the subtle and softness of its OST soundtrack.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
There are some K-Dramas that makes one feel ambivalent whether one likes it or not. For me, it started with Yong Pal and this came along. It has all the making of a great K-Drama but for some reason, there’s something lacking in the feel. However, you may disagree or even hate me for saying this but this is definitely much better than Goblin. With Goblin, I have no ambivalent feelings about it, it started great but truly went downhill from there especially when it comes to the story and even its logic.
(1) I feel icky and awkward when Yoo So-Joon and Song Ma-Rin act childish to be sweet. I can understand that Song Ma-Rin doesn’t want a typical adult relationship but the manner they go about it simply doesn’t work for me.
(2) Although, the story never really focus on time traveling and from the start the voice over of Yoo So-Joon said it so in no uncertain terms as the character himself never really fully delve to know, thus, can’t explain it either, however, it would have been great to have a certain explanation especially when Song Ma-Rin didn’t get the same power even if she was a part of that tragic incident and someone else also got the ability besides Yoo So-Joon. So, why is Song Ma-Rin an exception? Also, on the last episode, Yoo So-Joon was able to penetrate again the time barrier even without the train. It was like the writers just didn’t want to explain because they just want to fit the events without the responsibility of explaining to the audience why. They just want to do it and is a simple cop out. As an audience, even if I don’t review base on technicalities and would just like to evaluate the entertainment value per se, I still felt cheated.
Would I recommend this K-Drama?
