My Review:
I’ve seen this K-Drama a long time ago during its run but I’m probably not in my right disposition to appreciate nor remember it. Those were the days when I’m too depress with the humdrum of my own life and probably didn’t see its value except to think it is another sad K-Drama where someone dying is a dime in a dozen. It seems every K-Dramas during those years have cancer and amnesia. At that time I probably didn’t finish it because I assumed it’s like every K-Drama I’ve seen and my interest in K-Drama were waning those days of 2007. The sad part was I repeated the same mistake I did more than 10 years ago. I watched last year the 3 initial episodes and got a bit confused as to why the reviews I’ve read said it was good, no, actually, great even. But, the first 3 episodes seems to be very typical, so, I stopped watching and delegated it as something to continue later. Then, finally, I found the time to watching it again during a long weekend just a few days ago. I started where I left off. I must say I am glad I returned back to watch the rest of it and discovered how wrong I was. After the first 3 episodes is where the jewel of this K-Drama begins. This probably the reason why it didn’t do well in the ratings because a lot of the people who started watching it is like me who gave up too easily after the 3 episodes. Well, you have to correct that if you are one of us who were too impatient to wait and if you are not, then, you have to watch this K-Drama. I believe it is one of the best melodrama I’ve seen and every moment of it after the 3rd episode spoke of one of the most heartrending story I’ve ever watched in K-Drama.
So, What do I Like About this K-Drama?
(1) It is a deeply thoughtful and touching K-Drama. It brought lump in my throat and tears in my cheeks on so many scenes. It is not because someone is wailing or acting too hard to squeeze the emotions from me as an audience but because it is one of the rare K-Dramas done where emotions felt comes naturally.
(2) This K-Drama affected me long after I finished the last episode. It has touched so many things about life such as family, friendship, love, hope and even death. It made me think a lot of things and become reflective about my own life. I may like to be entertained when I watch K-Dramas or even any drama or film in general for that matter and prefer reel endings rather than real but the brand of reality this K-Drama brought me I can honestly say I can consider as an exception to my rule.
(3) It is indeed a pleasure when you see talent in people and the actors here are quite brilliant. Kang Hye-Jung and Cha Tae-Hyun are quite brilliant in delivering their roles. I’ve never considered Cha Tae-Hyun a typical K-Pop drop dead gorgeous actor but his charm comes from being able to effortlessly infuse drama and comedy all at the same time. He’s indeed a brilliant actor. He was in My Sassy Girl and still is here in thi K-Drama. It is the first time I’ve watched Kang Hye-Jung, or so I thought, then I’ve learned she’s the girl in Welcome to Dongmakgol who made me cry on that film. And, just like here, I must say she did a splendid job in her character. I wish I am that brazen and strong as her character.
(4) This K-Drama was able to achieve to tackle a deeply sad topic yet it ends in hope. The manner the ending was done was very insightful and totally impressive by how they relay a simple story into something wonderful and heartwarming.
(5) This K-Drama has shown the very essence of how we should live our life. Give importance to those we love and to spend our time as if it is our last. There’s also one thing that this K-Drama has shown and that we have layers of who we are as a person, that’s why we can’t judge others just according to what we see. Sometimes those we see as nobody are more than somebody than who we are.
What I do Not Like About this K-Drama?
There’s really nothing I didn’t like. However, if I will fault it, maybe, they should have made the first 3 episodes a little more exciting and did a bit different style, so, those similar to me won’t assume the same thing I did. But, after I finished it, I wouldn’t consider it a flaw or even change it, for that matter, because the first 3 episodes are needed, so, we can slowly appreciate and be prepared for the staidness of the theme. This K-Drama both brought me to laugh and cry and even if I wish that there’s no ending in life, it is simply just the truth. This K-Drama has made me feel the things I don’t want to feel and even so it did, I consider this one of the best entertainment I’ve seen.
Would I recommend this K-Drama?
